The process of our production

Planting rose plants

It all starts with planting the rose plants. The entire crop is renewed every 8 years to guarantee the best quality. After planting, the first stems are bent so the plant can grow in size. This way, more photosynthesis takes place and more new roses can grow.

Watering

Another important part of making the plant grow is watering it. This is done by using droppers. Each plant is equipped with a dripper and each plant receives the correct amount of water via a computer-controlled program.

Optimal climate

The climate in the greenhouses is very important. The conditions in our greenhouses must be monitored every day to ensure the climate is optimal for our roses. The climate depends on several factors, including weather conditions.

Lighting

Our rose plants need sufficient light to grow well. When it is not light enough outside, we turn on the LED lighting in the greenhouse so the plants can continue to grow well.

Crop control

Diseases and pests must be controlled. At SK Roses we do this as organic as possible. We try to combat diseases and pests as much as possible using natural enemies. For example, we use beetles to combat lice plagues.

Harvest

Our roses are harvested by hand twice a day. To prevent damage, each rose is cut separately and carefully placed in the harvest cart. After harvesting, the roses are placed in fresh water immediately to achieve a high shelf life.

Central sorting

To guarantee top quality, central sorting at the location on Noord-Lierweg was the ultimate wish. In our opinion, this is where our company has achieved the greatest innovation in recent years. The roses from the various locations enter the cold storage unsorted on a transport system of water containers that we designed ourselves.

Processing

The most modern techniques are then used in the large processing room to select the roses for quality precisely by experienced employees. Via the new processing line, each rose is individually measured and assessed by a high-tech camera system.

Bunching and packing

All roses with the same quality are bunched per 10 pieces. These bunches are automatically transported to the packing stations. At the packing stations, experienced employees once again check the quality of each bunch and ultimately package it and place it in buckets with fresh water.

Internal transport

The buckets are transported to the cold storage via an automatic internal transport system. Because the process outside the cold storage takes less than thirty minutes, the cold chain is virtually closed and quality remains guaranteed.

Sales

Through an online inventory system, our salespeople always have an up-to-date overview and can serve customers optimally.

Customization

Quality and flexibility are the pillars on which our business operations rest. We are always available for deliveries of any desired order size. Personally printed packaging sleeves, stickers and luxurious protective collars are just a few of the many options we offer. Curious about the possibilities? Contact us!
