Sustainability
Sustainable entrepreneurship has become an increasingly important theme over the years and SK Roses is also committed to this. Our goal is to be able to grow without emissions. This means that there are no more emissions of gases, fertilizers and light. Based on this objective, SK Roses has made various investments over the years to make its business processes increasingly sustainable.
SK Roses stands for sustainable entrepreneurship
Water reuse
Water is reused in various ways. For example, rainwater that falls on the greenhouse is collected and then stored in large silos. The nutrient water for the roses is also cleared of all bacteria after use and recirculated. Our irrigation system circulates water in every possible way and is therefore a closed system.
Integrated crop control
Integrated crop control is applied. This means that our cultivation is as organic as possible. Combating diseases and pests using chemicals is kept to a minimum at SK Roses. Instead, natural enemies are used to get rid of a pest.
LED-ligting
All our greenhouses are equipped with LED lighting. By using LED we reduce our energy consumption. In addition, LED lighting is also less harmful to the environment, because it has a longer lifespan.
Solar panels
All our locations are equipped with solar panels. We use the energy we generate with this for various purposes. Part is used for lighting in the greenhouse, the rest is used to supply our industrial hall and offices with energy.
CHP installation
All other energy needs are generated by means of cogeneration. A CHP installation converts gas into heat, CO2 and electricity. The heat is used to maintain the temperature in the greenhouse, the CO2 is given to the plant and the electricity is used for assimilation lighting. The residual heat is supplied to nearby greenhouses, which also need heat for their cultivation.
CO2
The CO2 that we give to the plant, an important growth factor, is a residual product of the industry in the Botlek (OCAP CO2). We use this residual product when the CHP installation is switched off.
Electricity
Our greenhouses are also an important part of the balancing of the Dutch electricity grid. When there is a shortage of electricity, our CHP receives a signal and supplies the generated electricity to the electricity grid. In the event of a surplus of power, the lighting in our greenhouses will be turned on to spare the electricity grid.
Double screens
We have double screens, so we can retain our heat well during the dark period. This way, heat is not unnecessarily wasted.
Minimale lichtuitstoot
De lichtuitstoot wordt gereduceerd door middel van een gesloten schermdoekinstallatie.
Humidification and roof sprinklers
Air humidification and roof sprinklers ensure that the ventilation windows can remain closed, thus keeping CO2 emissions to a minimum.
Airmixers
The greenhouses are equipped with Airmixers. The Airmix ensures the right mix of cold and warm air in the greenhouse. In this way it is possible to ventilate and dehumidify with closed screens. Because we can keep the screens closed, we save energy.
MPS certified
SK Roses is in possession of an MPS-GAP certificate. With this certificate we meet requirements in themes of traceability, crop protection, safety and sustainability.
